The far-reaching vision of our Leader’s final publication Prior to the appearance of The Christian Science Monitor in November 1908, such a thing as a daily newspaper owned and issued by a religious organization was regarded as impractical if not impossible. This was the unanimous opinion of non-Science newspaper people, one of whom went so far as to declare that its title alone would prevent its survival and that a ship flying such a flag would be on the rocks before it could get out of the harbor.
