Saturday, January 16, 1909 I have been here but a short time, yet I see the necessity of impersonalizing the generous praise that is extended when one has performed some particularly worthy thing, as well as treating in the same way the rebukes and reproofs that at times seem unduly severe. The exultation of the one and the depression of the other are both fraught with danger and can only be nullified by recognizing that they are not intended to be personal.
