Testimony Guidelines

We’re so glad you’d like to submit a testimony for the Christian Science publications. As you think about your healing, or healings, Article VIII, Section 24, of the Manual of The Mother Church is an invaluable guide. There, Mary Baker Eddy wrote: “Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, ‘who healeth all thy diseases’ ” (p. 47).

It’s helpful to realize that many people who read your testimony may just be beginning to consider spiritual healing. Others will be longtime students of Christian Science. Here are a few tips, as you begin to write, that will prove helpful in bringing God’s healing power to light for readers:

  • Tell how you prayed. Write your account as if you were telling it to a friend or neighbor, sharing your joy and gratitude for the insights and ideas that led to the healing. Share the spiritual insights you gained.
  • Feel free to include a passage or passages from the Bible, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, or any of Mrs. Eddy’s other writings that were significant to the healing, a testimony may include a verse from a hymn, too, but keep the testimony as much as possible in your own words rather than relying too much on quotes.
  •  Indicate clearly that the healing is complete and that it has been permanent.
  • Testimonies typically range from 400–1,000 words in length. A Sentinel or Journal editor can help you shape and condense or expand when necessary.

Include names, telephone numbers, and e-mail (or post office) addresses of three people who would be willing to verify your testimony. Verifiers should be people who know you well and have either witnessed the healing or can vouch for your integrity in sharing it.

Your submission will be reviewed by our editorial team for possible publication online and in the print periodicals. Please use the online submission form to submit your manuscript.

Whether or not your testimony is published, we know you’ll be blessed by expressing your gratitude for Christian Science healing through writing and submitting your testimony to the periodicals. We so look forward to reviewing your submission!
