Here, in terms somewhat scandalous to the experimental researcher and statistical analyst, is a scientific methodology which demands a creative leap akin to the imaginative insight of art and in some degree approaching the revelatory experience of the great religious thinkers. Yet it also demands the kind of empirical verification or justification which separates even theoretical physics from pure mathematics—and which, in a very different context, separates even the metaphysics of Christian Science from a system of abstract idealistic propositions.
