President Francois Hollande is weighing his options after dissolving the government on Monday over open feuding in the Cabinet about how much cutting – or spending – will revive the country's stagnant economy. The debate among French Socialists mirrors one taking place across Europe on whether to pursue a German-led model of fiscal austerity or use more government spending to spur growth. Prime Minister Manuel Valls offered up his Socialist government's resignation after accusing France's outspoken economy minister of crossing a line with his blunt criticism of the government's policies. Hollande accepted the resignation and ordered Valls to form a new government by Tuesday.

Burger King is in talks to buy Tim Hortons in hopes of creating a new, publicly traded company with its headquarters in Canada. With a new base in Canada, Burger King, the fast food chain now based in Miami, could shave its US tax bill. Tax inversions have become increasingly popular among US companies trying to cut costs. The majority owner of Burger King, 3G Capital, would own the majority of shares of the new company.

Ukraine's president on Monday dissolved parliament and called for early elections in October as his country continues to battle a pro-Russian insurgency in its eastern regions. President Petro Poroshenko announced in a statement posted on his website that he has dissolved parliament and called for snap elections on October 26. The announcement came a day ahead of a summit that includes both Poroshenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and could be aimed at pressuring Ukraine into seeking a negotiated end to the conflict rather than a military victory.

The leader of Nigeria's Islamist group Boko Haram said his fighters were now ruling the captured northeastern town of Gwoza "by Islamic law," in the first video to state a territorial claim in more than five years of violent insurrection. The Nigerian military was quoted in local press as denying that Boko Haram was in control of the town, although security sources and some witnesses said police and military there had been pushed out. Abubakar Shekau's videoed speeches, often as chilling for a rambling incoherence as for any message they contain, have become a regular feature of the militant leader's bid to project himself as public enemy No. 1 in Nigeria.

A Maine lobsterman says one of his traps caught a one-in-two-million crustacean: a blue lobster. WCSH-TV reports Jay LaPlante of the Miss Meghan Lobster Catch company caught the curious creature in Scarborough around 10:45 a.m. Saturday. LaPlante and daughter Meghan were hauling traps when she discovered the bright blue critter. The story has a happy ending for the lobster. Meghan says she is naming it Skyler and donating it to the Maine State Aquarium.

A rare, nearly flawless copy of Superman's comic-book debut has sold for a super-powered price: $3.2 million. New York comics dealers Stephen Fishler and Vincent Zurzolo said Monday they submitted Sunday's record-setting bid in the eBay auction for Action Comics No. 1, the 1938 book in which the superhero first appeared. It's believed to be the highest price ever paid for a comic book, surpassing $2.1 million for a similarly high-quality copy of the same book in 2011.
