Making good on a pledge to change US posture toward Cuba, President Obama held talks Tuesday with Cuban President Raul Castro, the second time the leaders of the once-estranged nations have met this year. The encounter comes as the Cold War adversaries go about the long and complex process of normalizing relations following decades of animosity. The US recently eased rules for citizens who want to visit or do business in Cuba to help fostering greater economic freedom on the island.

A Baltimore judge on Tuesday set trial dates, the first beginning in November, for six police officers charged in the death of a black man from an injury suffered in police custody, an event that triggered protests, arson and rioting. Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry Williams scheduled individual trials with start dates ranging from Nov. 30 to March 9 for the officers accused in the death of Freddie Gray in April.

An El Paso clinic shuttered by Texas' tough 2013 abortion law reopened Tuesday, the first in the state to do so since the US Supreme Court temporarily blocked enforcement of some of the key restrictions three months ago. The Reproductive Services clinic, so close to the Texas-Mexico border that its windows offer views of Ciudad Juarez across the Rio Grande, is now taking appointments and should begin performing abortions next week. The reopening brings to 20 the number of abortion clinics licensed in America's second most-populous state, according to a list provided by health officials.

Former South Dakota Gov. Walter Dale Miller, who stepped in as the state's leader in 1993 after a plane crash killed his predecessor, died Monday night. Miller served as the state's 29th governor through 1995, taking the oath of office on April 20, 1993, a day after the plane carrying Gov. George Mickelson and seven others went down in eastern Iowa. South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard said Miller was a friend who assumed the governorship at a time of tragedy and sorrow.

Making a glass of Coke at home will soon be possible, if you don't mind paying more than $300 for a machine that sits on your kitchen countertop. Plus an extra dollar or so per drink. Keurig Green Mountain says it will start selling a machine Tuesday that makes single servings of cold beverages including Coke, Sprite, Dr. Pepper and flavored seltzer waters. The machine is similar in concept to Keurig's brewers, which let people make cups of coffee and tea by inserting a pod into the machine and pressing a button.
