That was the last he heard until one January afternoon in 1881 Mrs. Eddy turned up in person in his office, recalled herself to him, told him of the voluminous troubles she had had with the writing and printing of the first two editions, admitted frankly that it would be impossible for her to advance half the cost then or to pay in full on delivery, but assured him of her confidence that she could sell enough copies to meet the cost if he would go ahead and print the third edition.
