An Egyptian source close to the investigation on Wednesday told Reuters the cause of Saturday's crash of a Russian passenger jet in the Sinai Peninsula was looking more like an explosion, but that it was not clear whether it was linked to fuel or engine trouble or a bomb. CNN reported a US intelligence official said the crash was most likely caused by a bomb on the plane planted by ISIS or an ISIS affiliate. The official stressed that there has not been a formal conclusion reached by the US intelligence community.

Ohio voters rejected a ballot proposal Tuesday that would have legalized both recreational and medical marijuana in a single stroke — a vote-getting strategy that was being watched as a potential test case for the nation. Failure of the proposed state constitutional amendment followed an expensive campaign, a legal fight over its ballot wording, an investigation into petition signatures — and, predominantly, a counter campaign against a network of 10 exclusive growing sites it would have created. It was the only marijuana legalization question on the 2015 statewide ballots.

Some 117 million Americans rely on water from temporary waterways for drinking. While the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has had regulatory control over waterways since 1972 in order to ensure pollution control under the Clean Water Act, millions of miles of streams and millions of acres of wetland were left without federal protection, advocates say. Earlier this year, the Obama administration and the EPA sought to solve this issue by enacting a new measure to include temporary waterways in the Clean Water Act. The Senate revisited the issue this week, voting down a bill that would have overturned the regulations issued in May.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott continues to crack down on local governments offering any form of sanctuary to undocumented immigrants. On Wednesday, Governor Abbott said that local police departments that don’t cooperate fully with the United States immigration authorities could lose funding. The announcement comes in response to criticism that local governments are allowing and aiding illegal immigrants.

More than half of black Millennials say they or someone they know has been the victim of violence or harassment by law enforcement, according to a newly released survey that pre-dates the high-profile cases of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, and Freddie Gray that have galvanized the Black Lives Matter movement. The findings underscore disparities of experiences with the justice system and policing among black, Latino, Asian, and white Millennials. The Mobilization and Change Survey, conducted in 2009 and just released via the Associated Press, tallied 54.4 percent of black Millennials who answered yes to the question "Have you or anyone you know experienced harassment or violence at the hands of the police?" By contrast, nearly one in three whites, one in four Latinos, and a little more than a quarter of Asian-Americans answered yes to the same question.

For three months only, from December through February, NASA will accept applications for aspiring space voyagers to join the current 47-man astronaut team. The space agency says the call, the first since 2011, is necessitated by the impending return of current astronauts to American soil and the prospect of a possible journey to Mars.
