Searchers looking for the fallen AirAsia flight's black boxes honed in on intense pings on Sunday detected amid a growing belief that the devices will soon be recovered. Indonesian officials said earlier Sunday that two separate pings had been detected in the Java Sea near where the flight crashed in bad weather. Officials said that the signals were intense in one area, and that the recorders were believed to be lodged there beneath wreckage. If divers are unable to free it, all of the debris will be lifted.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is in India to attend an international investment conference and push trade ties with the giant South Asian nation ahead of visit by President Barack Obama later this month. Along the way, Kerry stopped briefly in Germany on Saturday to meet with the ailing ruler of Oman, the Mideast country that's served an important intermediary role in negotiations over Iran's nuclear program.

Florida authorities say George Zimmerman has been arrested for allegedly throwing a wine bottle at his girlfriend. Zimmerman's 2013 acquittal of murdering an unarmed black teen sparked a national debate on race and self-defense laws. The Seminole County Sheriff's Office says the 31-year-old Zimmerman was arrested for aggravated assault at his home in on Friday evening; he appeared in court on Saturday and posted bond. This is the third time he has been arrested for domestic altercations since his acquittal, though no charges have ever been filed.

Hands torn and bleeding, the second of two men attempting a grueling climb up a half-mile of sheer granite in California's Yosemite National Park cleared one of the ascent's most difficult stretches after days of failed attempts and waiting. Growing crowds of onlookers at the foot of the Dawn Wall at Yosemite's El Capitan peak broke into cheers — and some tears — Friday when Kevin Jorgeson finally grasped a razor-sharp hold that had eluded him, clipped an anchor to secure himself, then shouted in triumph, according to online accounts by colleagues at the scene. Jorgeson and climber Tommy Caldwell are two weeks into what is billed as the first free climb of the vertical Dawn Wall to reach the 3,000-foot summit of El Capitan.

SpaceX sent a supply ship soaring flawlessly toward the International Space Station on Saturday, but the booster rocket ended up in pieces in the Atlantic following a failed attempt to land on a barge. The company maintains that recovering and reusing rockets is essential for bringing down launch costs and speeding up operations. Until Saturday, no one had ever tried anything like this before, and SpaceX says it will make corrections and try again.

North Korea has told the United States that it's willing to impose a temporary moratorium on its nuclear tests if Washington scraps planned military drills with South Korea this year, the North's official news agency said Saturday. The U.S. has previously refused to cancel military drills with South Korea, even at times of high tensions, and has said the North must first demonstrate how sincere it is about nuclear disarmament before serious talks can resume. The North's reported proposal comes at a time of animosity between North Korea and the U.S. over a Sony movie depicting the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The U.S. blames the North for crippling hacking attacks on Sony Entertainment and subsequently imposed new sanctions on the country, inviting an angry response from Pyongyang, which has denied responsibility for the cyberattacks.
