Hundreds of migrants chanted defiant slogans outside Budapest's main international train station Wednesday as Hungarian police blocked them for a second day from seeking asylum in Germany and other wealthy European Union countries. The cavernous Keleti train station is the latest focal point for European tensions over the unrelenting flow of migrants from the Middle East, Asia, and Africa fleeing war and poverty. At other pressure points Wednesday on the route into Europe, Turkish media reported that 11 migrants drowned as they tried to cross the sea to Greece. Six other migrants were rescued and five remained missing when two boats carrying them from Bodrum to the nearby Greek island of Kos capsized Wednesday.

A suicide bomber and a subsequent car bomb killed at least 20 people Wednesday at a mosque in Yemen's rebel-held capital, Sanaa, amid the country's raging civil war, officials said. The suicide bomber detonated explosives inside the mosque during the evening call to prayers, while the car bomb exploded outside an entrance, they said. Officials said the death toll may rise. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the blast in the capital, though an affiliate of the extremist Islamic State group has carried out similar bombings in Sanaa this year.

Protesters wielding Communist flags clashed with police in Kolkata on Wednesday as millions of workers across India went on strike, the latest display of opposition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's economic reform package. Modi's plan for reviving India's slowing economy has met with fierce protest and Wednesday's strike came days after the premier abandoned a pro-industry land reform which the opposition had said would hurt India's farmers. Unions called the one-day action against Modi's plans to loosen rigid labor laws, which they say will put jobs at risk. Nearly 150 million workers in banking, manufacturing and construction, backed by 10 major unions, stayed away from work. Taxi and rickshaw drivers stayed off the streets in Delhi, and shops and banks closed in left-wing stronghold Kerala in the south.

A new United Nations report says Gaza could be "uninhabitable" in less than five years if current economic trends continue. The report released Tuesday by the UN Conference on Trade and Development points to the eight years of economic blockade of Gaza as well as the three wars between Israel and the Palestinians there over the past six years. Last year's war displaced half a million people and left parts of Gaza destroyed. The war "has effectively eliminated what was left of the middle class, sending almost all of the population into destitution and dependence on international humanitarian aid," the new report says.

US private employers maintained a solid pace of hiring in August despite recent global financial market turmoil, suggesting that labor market momentum likely remains strong enough for the Federal Reserve to consider an interest rate hike this year. The ADP National Employment Report on Wednesday showed private payrolls increased 190,000 last month. While that was below economists' expectations for a gain of 201,000 jobs, it was a step-up from the 177,000 positions created in July.

Amazon is upping the ante in the streaming-video competition with downloadable videos. The e-commerce powerhouse will now let members of its $99 annual Prime loyalty program download some shows and movies on its streaming video service to watch offline, or when there is no Internet connection available, for free. To watch the content users can download the Amazon Video app for iOS or Android.
