The last Ebola patient under treatment in the US says he is a living example of effective treatment and urged support for those combating the virus at its West African epicenter. "Today, I am healthy," a smiling Dr. Craig Spencer said as he was released after nearly three weeks in Bellevue Hospital, where he had been at least for now. "Please join me in turning our attention back to West Africa," where the virus has killed thousands of people this year, he added after thanking Bellevue staffers who treated him and getting a hug from the mayor.

Pope Francis has set up a new commission to handle appeals by priests who have been disciplined for sexual abuse of minors, the Vatican said on Tuesday. The commission will include seven bishops or cardinals and will handle the backlog of appeals, while an existing office will continue to handle new cases. Between 2004 and 2013, the Vaticcan defrocked about 850 priests who had been accused of sexual abuse of minors.

St. Louis County police said they have spent around $100,000 stocking up on riot gear and other items they may need if protests turn violent after prosecutors announce whether or not to prosecute a Ferguson officer in the shooting death of Michael Brown. A state grand jury has been meeting since shortly after Brown, who was 18 and black, was shot and killed by Officer Darren Wilson, who is white, on Aug. 9.

The Mormon church has admitted that founder Joseph Smith married about 40 women, including a 14-year-old and others who were already the wives of his followers, despite having maintained for nearly 200 years that he was monogamous. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints publicly acknowledged that while most of Smith's wives were between 20 and 40, Helen Mar Kimball was "sealed" to him several months before she turned 15. The church, founded in 1830, banned polygamy in 1890.

The Ford Motor Co.'s biggest change in decades, an aluminum-sided F-150, could set a new industry standard – or cost the company its pickup truck crown. Ford hopes the advantages of a lighter and more fuel-efficient truck will outweigh customer doubts about the durability of aluminum. Aluminum isn't new to the auto industry, but this is the first time it will cover the entire body of such a high-volume vehicle. F-Series trucks have been the best-selling vehicles in the US for 37 straight years.

Slow-moving lava incinerated a house on Hawaii's Big Island, marking the first home devoured by a stream of molten rock that has crept toward the village of Pahoa for weeks, officials said. Like most homes in the area, it had been evacuated some time ago, and no injuries were reported from the river of lava, which began oozing from Kilauea Volcano in late June.
