The third American sickened with Ebola is a Boston-area doctor who decided to return to Liberia after the two others fell ill with the deadly virus, the president of his missionary group said Wednesday. Dr. Rick Sacra went back to Liberia about a month ago and was not caring for Ebola patients, instead delivering babies at the missionary group's hospital in Liberia, SIM President Bruce Johnson said at a news conference. Sacra followed all protocols to protect himself, said Will Elthick, director of SIM's operations in Liberia, and he's in good spirits and able to email. SIM does not know whether Sacra, who is in isolation, will return to the US for treatment, as the other two Americans did, Johnson said.

Two of North Carolina's longest-serving death row inmates were freed from prison Wednesday, a day after a judge overturned their three decades-old convictions because of new DNA evidence in the murder of an adolescent girl. Henry McCollum, 50, walked out of Central Prison in Raleigh. Later, Leon Brown, 46, left Maury Correctional Institution outside Greenville. Superior Court Judge Douglas Sasser overturned the convictions Tuesday, saying the fact another man's DNA was found on a cigarette butt left near the body of the slain girl contradicted the case put forth by prosecutors.

France is suspending the delivery of a hulking warship to Russia amid security concerns about Moscow's actions in neighboring Ukraine, President Francois Hollande's office said Wednesday. The announcement comes a day before the start of a NATO summit and after months of pressure on France from allies to suspend the sale amid tensions between Russia and Ukraine. Hollande's office, in a statement after he met with top defense advisers, called the fighting in eastern Ukraine "grave," and said Russia's recent actions harm "the foundations of security in Europe."

Organizers of the world's largest St. Patrick's Day Parade say they're ending a ban and allowing a gay group to march under its own banner for the first time. The prohibition on identified gay groups in the centuries-old New York parade had made participation a political issue. Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio refused to march this year, and Guinness beer dropped its sponsorship. The parade committee, in a statement made available to The Associated Press, said on Wednesday that OUT@NBCUniversal, a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender support group at the company that broadcasts the parade, would be marching up Manhattan's Fifth Avenue on March 17 under an identifying banner.

As CVS sharpens its focus on customer health, the nation's second-largest drugstore chain will tweak its corporate name and stop the sale of tobacco nearly a month sooner than planned. CVS Caremark said it will now be known as CVS Health, effective immediately. The signs on its roughly 7,700 drugstores won't change, so the tweak may not register with shoppers. However, those customers will see a big change when they check out. The cigars and cigarettes that used to fill the shelves behind store cash registers have been replaced with nicotine gum and signs urging visitors to kick the tobacco habit.

Chrysler and Nissan both posted double-digit US sales gains last month, signs of a strong August for the industry. Chrysler's sales leaped 20 percent as the Jeep brand led the automaker to its best August in a dozen years. Nissan reported nearly a 12 percent increase. The numbers are a sign of a strong month for the industry as dealers sell off 2014 models to make room for new ones. They also demonstrate the accelerating shift of American buyers from cars to higher-sitting crossover SUVs.
