The co-pilot of a Germanwings flight that slammed into an Alpine mountainside "intentionally" sent the plane into its doomed descent, a French prosecutor said Thursday. Marseille prosecutor Brice Robin said the commander left the cockpit, presumably to go to the lavatory, and then was unable to regain access. In the meantime, he said, co-pilot Andreas Lubitz manually and "intentionally" set the plane on the descent that drove it into the mountainside in the southern French Alps.

About 13,500 power outages continue in Oklahoma after severe storms struck the state and left at least one person dead. Public Service Company of Oklahoma reported about 7,000 outages Thursday morning and Oklahoma Gas & Electric reported more than 9,400. The majority of the outages are in Tulsa County with nearly 6,700 and in the Oklahoma City metro with about 9,100. The storm spawned tornadoes and one person was killed when what is believed to be a tornado struck a mobile home park in Sand Springs.

Police arrested two suspects Thursday in the gang rape of an elderly nun in a Catholic missionary school this month in a crime that focused attention on the scourge of sexual violence in India despite tough anti-rape laws introduced two years ago. The suspects were arrested after a nationwide hunt, one of them was found hiding in the western city of Mumbai and the second from West Bengal state, a police officer said.

The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell more than expected last week, pointing to a healthy and expanding labor market. The sustained jobs market strength underscores the economy's solid fundamentals and suggests a recent slowdown in economic activity will be temporary. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 9,000 to a seasonally adjusted 282,000 for the week ended March 21, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

The air strikes against Houthi rebels, who have driven the president from Yemen's capital Sanaa, could stoke concerns about the security of Middle East oil shipments if the conflict widens.

A Northern California woman and her boyfriend concocted her reported abduction that spurred a two-day search, police said late Wednesday. The revelation came just hours after she had reappeared 400 miles away in Southern California to the emotional relief of her family. Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn have now become the target of the investigation as police probe whether they did anything illegal in their report of a random, violent abduction and a ransom request of $8,500.
